VW targets cinema goers with Dudeism Independent Thinking ad

LONDON - German car manufacturer VW advertised against James Cameron's 3D blockbuster 'Avatar', which delivered an estimated 574,900 impacts to be named the most watched film over the weekend.

Since Avatar's release on 18 December 2009, Cameron's sci-fi extravaganza has delivered an estimated 17 million impacts and taken £83.3m at the box office, according to figures from Digital Cinema Media.

The VW ad, 'Dudeism Independent Thinking', planned and bought by MediaCom and created by ad agency DDB, ran against all films nationally apart from 'Alvin and The Chipmunk''s and 'Astro Boy'.

Disney's cartoon 'The Princess and the Frog', which has been out for four weeks, was the second most watched film of the weekend with 431,380 impacts bringing its total impacts to 2.2 million.

'The Lovely Bones', directed by Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson, only managed third place in its first weekend with 334,200 impacts.

'Valentine's Day' slipped to fourth in its second week with 323,090 impacts bringing its total to 1.6 million.
