Volkswagen recently ran an appeal on social using the #YourVW hashtag, asking for fans to come forward with their memories of the German marque's cars.

One of the respondents was Manchester pub-restaurant manager Barry Openshaw, who fondly remembered his dad’s gold VW Beetle 1300 in the 1970s.

Barry's story inspired VW to reunite him with the beloved Beetle but the actual car was unavailable. So the brand sourced an identical model, restored it and flew Barry's brother over from Canada to deliver the surprise.
