Volkswagen turns to viral marketing for 'bollocks' ad

LONDON - Volkswagen has turned to viral marketing to get its latest advertising seen, after fears that the commercial, which features a young girl saying 'bollocks', may upset some viewers.

In the 40-second ad, created by BMP DDB to promote Volkswagen's diesel cars, a sweet-looking little girl is shown going happily about her daily life.

Happily, that is, until small disasters come her way, such as dropping her ice cream or finding that there is no toilet paper, when she lets rips with the word "bollocks".

It is not until the end of the ad that it is revealed where she has learned this word -- from her father, and we see him accidentally putting petrol in his car instead of diesel and swearing "bollocks!".

BMP DDB claims that the director, Jackie Oudney, had the twin girls who star in the ad splash paint and create imitation Jackson Pollack artwork and repeat the artist's "Pollack" name before shooting began.

The ad was created by Dan Hubert and Amber Casey, and produced by Bliss Films. It features the endline: "VW, don't forget it's a diesel".

Volkswagen follows in the footsteps of Ford, which saw a recent viral campaign come under fire because it showed a pigeon being killed before it had the chance to relieve itself on a newly washed SportKa. Pigeon fanciers failed to see the funny side, saying that losing a pigeon was "almost like losing a member of the family".
