Shulman has led the publication since 1992 and has been credited with boosting the magazine’s circulation by nearly 25%, to more than a million copies.
She began her career at Condé Nast in 1982 and worked on Tatler, before going on to become features editor of Vogue, editor of GQ and finally, editor of Vogue.
Paul Coyle, pro vice-chancellor and executive dean at the university, said: "Alexandra Shulman is one of the most influential women in the fashion industry. Her success at Vogue is evident in the huge increase in readership and the fact that she is close to celebrating two decades as editor."
Shulman, who was awarded an OBE in 2005 for services to the magazine industry, said: "It is an honour to receive this recognition from the University for the Creative Arts."
She added: "The creative industries are increasingly recognised for the essential and humanising contribution they make to our culture and society, and the breadth of subjects at UCA can only encourage new and vital talent."
Shulman was presented with the award at UCA Epsom’s graduation ceremony on Tuesday, at Guildford Cathedral.
