Vodafone has jettisoned the group chief marketing officer role, occupied by Wendy Becker, as part of a restructure that folds its global marketing function into a larger unit.

Becker is in discussions with the company about taking up an alternative role and is continuing to support the marketing team, including working on a customer engagement project.

In place of the chief marketing officer role, there will be a senior brand role and a senior marketing role, which have yet to be filled according to a spokeswoman.

The global brand director role was occupied until the end of August on an interim basis by Harit Nagpal, after David Wheldon left in March without a job to go to.

Both roles will report to Morten Lundal, who has been made group chief commercial officer.

He will oversee the new group commercial unit, into which have been combined marketing, Vodafone business services, Vodafone global enterprise, partner markets and other commercial units.
