Vivendi sells $2bn NBC stake to GE

Vivendi, the French multimedia conglomerate, has sold part of its 20% stake in NBC Universal to General Electric for $2bn.

GE has acquired a 7.7% stake from Vivendi and plans to acquire the remaining 12.3% owned by Vivendi for $3.8bn after the completion of a GE transaction with new NBC owner Comcast.

Jean-Bernard Levy, Vivendi chief executive, said the group could use the NBC sale proceeds to buy 100% of telecom operator SFR, of which it currently owns 56%.

NBC Universal is one of the world's leading media and entertainment companies in the development, production, and marketing of entertainment, news, and information to a global audience.

Its portfolio includes USA Network, CNBC, Syfy, MSNBC, Bravo, Oxygen, mun2, CNBC World, Chiller, Sleuth, Universal HD, and HD simulcasts.
