Visitors fail to show at Crufts

Crufts organisers have blamed foot and mouth for a slump in visitor numbers at the world-famous dog show.

Crufts organisers have blamed foot and mouth for a slump in visitor numbers at the world-famous dog show. The four-day event in May had already been postponed from March. It attracted 90,000 visitors and 20,000 dogs. Organiser The Kennel Club anticipated 115,000 visitors at the NEC. Overseas exhibitors participated in the show for the first time following the relaxation of UK quarantine laws. An Italian entry went on to win the 鈥渂est in the working group鈥 category. Other activities at Crufts, included demonstrations, displays and competitions leading up to the 鈥渂est in show鈥 award, won this year by a two-year old Basenji.
