Jackson, who became chief executive at the SMG station in January after the departure of Fru Hazlitt, will now re-join his former boss, who is managing director of GCap London. He will report to Hazlitt.
The move will see Jackson return to his old stomping ground, as he worked as regional programme director at Capital Radio before joining Virgin as programme director nearly in 2001.
He will also follow in the footsteps of his father, Global Radio’s executive director Richard Park, who was group programme director at Capital from 1991.
Jackson said in a statement: “It's the station I've always aspired to lead and to be given the opportunity to be MD at this time is both a great challenge and hugely exciting for me personally.”
Virgin Radio, which last week appointed former Chrysalis chief executive Richard Huntingford as chairman, will be looked after by its existing senior management team, with Huntingford and SMG chief executive Rob Woodward at the helm.
Jackson will remain at Virgin Radio for the immediate future.
