Virgin Mobile sponsors the MTV Music Video Awards

LONDON - Virgin Mobile USA is sponsoring this weekend's MTV Music Video Awards in Miami, with Jay-Z, the Darkness, Jet and Franz Ferdinand all nominated for prizes.

Virgin Mobile will have access to exclusive wireless voting for the Viewer's Choice Award.

This week the mobile operator has parked a van, equipped with handsets providing free calls, outside clubs along Miami's South Beach.

The event, which takes place on Sunday, will be broadcast in the UK on MTV, MTV Hits, MTV Dance and VHI.

Jay-Z leads the nominees this year. His promo for '99 Problems' has been nominated for prizes including Best Video, Best Male Video and Best Rap Video.

Beyonce, No Doubt, Usher and Outkast follow close behind with five nominations each.

Presenters include Jennifer Lopez, Hilary Duff, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jimmy Fallon, Will Smith, P Diddy, Paris Hilton, Lenny Kravitz and Shaquille O'Neal.

Howard Handler, the chief marketing officer at Virign Mobile, said: "The MTV Video Music Awards are the most important and influential television event of the year for teens and young adults. The show has an amazing energy and freshness that perfectly reflects the kind of wireless experience we're trying to create for our customers."
