Leagas Delaney has handled the account since November 2001. It is understood that the review has been called by Virgin Mobile USA marketing chief, Brenda Ross.
It is understood that Ross, along with USA CEO Dan Schulman, is looking for an East Coast shop and it is thought unlikely that Leagas Delaney will defend.
Ross was appointed international marketing director in April 2001 with a brief to develop and manage the consistency of the Virgin Mobile brand in overseas markets.
Virgin Mobile USA was launched with great fanfare by Sir Richard Branson in New York's Times Square in July last year.
Virgin has put around 拢77m into creating the venture and hired Leagas Delaney as its US ad agency.
Sir Richard Branson is thought to be pinning a lot on the mobile business to shore up the rest of the Virgin empire, as other ventures struggle and his airline continues to recover from September 11.
The brand aims to position itself as the pioneer of pay-as-you-go, with a package aimed at 15- to 30-year-olds.
According to a report in Ad Week, the review is being handled by New York-based consultancy Gilbert Taney Farlie.
