Barron began his career in management consulting at Bain & Co and then McKinsey, but has since worked in the European media sector.
He left McKinsey for , where he led a number of deals taking Disney channels into new European markets. He then joined , where he drove the establishment of the company's video-on-demand business in Europe, before assuming responsibility for Chellomedia, which by the time he left in 2002, had become the leading cable broadband provider in Europe.
For the past five years he worked at , initially as chief executive of its broadcasting division , which broadcasts more than 40 channels in 24 countries focused on Eastern Europe.
He was later appointed chief operating officer of MTG itself, which owns other businesses in television production, radio broadcasting and online retail.
