Virgin Atlantic marks 25 year with nostalgic campaign

LONDON - Virgin Atlantic is to celebrate its 25th anniversary with a £6m through-the-line campaign recreating the airline's launch in 1984.

Virgin Atlantic marks 25 year with nostalgic campaign

The 60-second TV ad, by RKCR/Y&R, attempts to cheer consumers amidst the economic downturn by taking them back to the first Virgin Atlantic flight to Newark in 1984.

The ad begins with a tabloid complaining ‘It's the Pits!', before Frankie Goes To Hollywood hit single ‘Relax' kicks in and glamorous Virgin Atlantic flight attendants and pilot are seen walking through an otherwise grey airport.

The airline team cause heads to turn, and one man to say ‘I need to change my ticket', before the ad closes with the endline ‘Still red hot'.

The TV and online campaign will be developed over the coming months through to Virgin Atlantic's official 25th anniversary on 22 June.
