The BPG rewarded Vice News for producing groundbreaking reports for young people about events in troubled areas around the world in its first year of operation in London.
Channel 4’s two awards included Best Documentary Series for Benefits Street, which prompted debate across the media, and Gogglebox, which picked up Best Factual Entertainment for the second year in a row.
Lenny Henry is taking a break from Comic Relief auditions to attend the awards this afternoon and pick up the Harvey Lee Award for Outstanding Contribution to Broadcasting.
Henry is collecting the award for his contribution to Comic Relief, his long career in broadcasting and his recent campaign to improve diversity in the industry, which is starting to have an impact.
BBC Two won four awards, picking up Best Single Drama and Best Actor for Marvellous and it is star Neil Baldwin. BBC Two’s The Honourable Woman picked up the prize for Best Drama Series and W1A won Best Comedy.
BBC Radio 4 has picked up both radio awards. Germany: Memories of a Nation, presented by Neil MacGregor, director of the British Museum, won Radio Programme of the Year, and Radio Broadcaster of the Year went to Jane Garvey, the presenter of Woman's Hour.
The storytelling series Crackanory on UKTV’s Dave won the Multichannel Award.
The awards, which are voted for by journalists who write about TV and radio and are sponsored by Discovery Channel, took place at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane today.
The BPG named BBC One’s Baby P: The Untold Story best Single Documentary.
BBC One writers picked up two awards with Sally Wainwright getting the BPG Writer's Award for Last Tango in Halifax and Happy Valley, and Harry and Jack Williams, the writers of The Missing, taking home the BPG Breakthrough Award.
