Viacom's move – which further rubs salt into the wounds of its dispute with Google – will see Microsoft replace the current seller of Viacom's ads, DoubleClick, which Google is attempting to buy. Google's DoubleClick acquisition was today cleared by the US Federal Trade Commission.
Viacom is suing Google for billions of dollars for alleged copyright violations of its content on video-sharing site YouTube.
The deal will see Microsoft serve graphical and video ads across Viacom’s several hundred US websites.
Viacom will also license its content for use on Microsoft products such as MSN and the Xbox 360.
