Verified by Visa launches on Dabs to reassure shoppers

LONDON - A new online payment system called Verified by Visa is being introduced in the UK to help protect shoppers against unauthorised use of their credit cards.

The system is being launched in the UK today on , the IT and home electronics company.

Verified by Visa gives users a unique password that must be used when shopping with a Visa card online. Once the password has been added to an existing Visa card, the checkout process of any participating online store will automatically prompt the shopper to supply it when completing a process, authenticating the user in the process.

David Atherton, managing director of Dabs.com, said: "Although using your credit card online at stores like Dabs.com is far safer than handing it over in a shop or a restaurant, where it's often taken completely out of sight, some shoppers still have niggling worries about the safety of using credit cards on the internet."

He added: "We welcome Visa's move to implement this extra level of protection and hope that this double-secure approach to online payment will give reluctant online buyers the peace of mind they need to start enjoying the convenience of internet shopping."
