LONDON (Brand Republic) - The Recording Industry Association of America has accused Napster of failing to comply with a court order to block copyrighted songs from its online service and is planning more legal action against the company.
Two weeks ago, a US District Court judge ruled that the RIAA should provide Napster with a list of copyrighted material to be blocked from its service. Napster installed filtering software to block these files, but has had problems identifying songs because of hundreds of misspellings and variations of song titles.
Some websites are offering services that scramble song titles into 鈥減ig Latin鈥, so that users can side step the filtering system.
Napster insists that it is doing everything it can to comply with the order, but this is not enough for the RIAA. It claims that Napster has failed to remove the 500,000 copyrighted files.
Napster could face stricter constraints, or closure, if it does not comply with the injunction.
