Universal McCann wins US media for Cartier and Dunhill

NEW YORK - Richemont, owner of brands such as Cartier and Dunhill, is reported to have named Universal McCann to handle its $50m (£32m) media buying and planning work in North America, Latin America and the Caribbean.

The luxury goods conglomerate appointed Universal McCann, part of the Interpublic Group of Companies, after a review that also included Omnicom's OMD, which handles the account in Asia, and WPP Group's Mediaedge:CIA, which holds the European media business.

Other brands owned by Richemont include Mont Blanc pens; the fashion and fragrance brand Chloe; jewellers Van Cleef & Arpels; and the gun and rifle maker Purdey.

According to reports, Brett Stewart, senior vice-president and director of strategic print at Universal McCann, will head a new media group dedicated to the Richemont account. The work was formerly handled by Plaza, an in-house marketing agency at Richemont.
