Unilever reviews £88m French media account

PARIS - Unilever is reviewing its 拢88.2m French media account for the first time in 15 years, with WPP's MindShare, Aegis's Carat and incumbent Initiative Media Worldwide, part of Interpublic, competing for the work.

Carat and MindShare hold other parts of the Unilever's global media business, with MindShare working on the business in German and Italy. However, Initiative is dominant in Europe.

Unilever has a general policy of reviewing media accounts across the globe every three years, but this does not always mean a competitive pitch. According to reports, the agencies have been asked for submissions and a decision on whether or not to conduct a full pitch will be taken at a later date.

In May this year, Initiative in the UK negotiated a 拢320m four-year deal with ITV on behalf of Unilever, giving the Anglo-Dutch consumer products giant the benefit of fixed airtime prices at a time when the market is relatively soft.

Unilever owns brands such as Dove, Magnum ice cream and Lipton tea.
