The ultimate British staycation: £35m plan to build luxury beach-hut resorts

LONDON - Beach Hut Resorts has announced plans to build its first 21 luxury beach huts in Whitley Bay in a £35m project.

The ultimate British staycation: £35m plan to build luxury beach-hut resorts

Each 'hut' will sleep four to six people, with a separate bedroom, fully-fitted kitchen, bathroom, sitting area and 24-hour concierge service. The huts will provide 24-hour accommodation for 11 months of the year.

The company behind the development, Newcastle upon Tyne-based Beach Hut Resorts, is in advanced discussions with councils and land-owners to develop similar schemes from the South Coast to Scotland.

‘Over the past 20 years, cheaper overseas package holidays have caused a huge decline in demand for the domestic holiday and short breaks; the financial effect on costal towns has simply been devastating. We are aiming to rebrand the "staycation" holiday, to enhance all that these exciting locations have to offer,' said Darren Baker, financial director of Beach Hut Resorts.

‘It's a tragedy that a large percentage of our generation are not aware of the fantastic coastlines, culture and history we have, or the opportunity to experience a relaxing vacation or an exhilarating break right here in the UK.'

Beach Hut Resorts will launch its first site for the start of the season next year.
