It will be the first festival in the UK to celebrate sustainable living, and will take place on 21 and 22 September at Darlington’s Lingfield Point, owned by property developers Marchday.
Visitors can attend for free and participate in recycling and upcycling activities that involves reusing unwanted items to convert them into something better.
Max McMurdo, star of Kirstie Allsopp’s latest Channel 4 series, Fill Your House For Free, will be working his makeover magic at the two-day festival. He will be creating a vintage-style beach hut caravan out of an old trailer, pallets and other junk together with his team of experts inspiring festival goers to follow suit.
Wayne Hemingway said: "We have been inventive in our thrift over the years and that’s been part of the fun. It’s also why it is great to be part of a festival celebrating sustainability and recognising it’s cool to be thrifty."
The festival will start with a mass bike ride from Darlington town centre. Market stalls, allotments and demonstrations will then be held both inside and outside the Lingfield Point venue.
Stella Hall, festival director, said: "This festival places creativity at the heart of our shared sustainable future, it positions artists and designers as inspirers to action and change through workshops, exhibitions and performances that will give all the family confidence to create while having fun on a budget."
