The annual UK TV Exports Survey, collated for producers' body Pact, revealed that total export sales amounted to £980m last year.

Programming exports to Australia and New Zealand represented the greatest proportionate growth area - up 65% year on year. Together with Europe and other smaller territories, these regions accounted for 78% of programme sales.

However, the biggest market for UK producers continues to be the US, which represents 36% of total export revenue and rose 11% on 2007 to £350m.

Pact said the licensing of television brands for merchandising and other purposes accounted for 43% of the increase in total revenue, rising 66% to £215m. Revenues from co-productions decreased 28% to £41m.
