This is the first year the Glass Lion has been awarded by the Cannes International Festival Creativity. The new award recognises work that challenges gender bias.

There are 18 shortlisted entries in total. The UK has secured three nominations.

On the shortlist are: FCB Inferno’s empowering "this girl can" work for Sport England, which encourages girls to exercise; Ogilvy & Mather London’s "28 too many" campaign for the charity that campaigns against female genital mutilation, and  Leo Burnett’s "#Likeagirl", a joint entry from the agency’s London, Toronto and Chicago offices.

Canada, India, United Arab Emirates and the US each have two entries in the Glass Lion category.

Cindy Gallop, the founder and chief executive at If We Ran The World and Make Love Not Porn, is the jury president.
