The incumbent is set to repitch, however, as UIP has not yet disclosed which other agencies it intends to shortlist.
The pitch is part of a standard review of the film distributor's media account, which is worth £26m, according to MMS.
It follows UIP's decision to abandon an earlier review in 2001, when Starcom Motive, Initiative, OMD and MindShare were reported to have pitched for the account.
UIP distributes films for three Hollywood studios -- Paramount, Universal and Dreamworks SKG.
Films currently on release in the UK include 'American Pie: The Wedding', 'Johnny English' and 'Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life'. Forthcoming releases include 'The Italian Job', and 'Love Actually', the hotly anticipated new movie from 'Four Weddings and a Funeral' director Richard Curtis.
UIP is the second film distributor to review its media arrangement in recent months. Pathe recently appointed BLM Media to its £6m UK account, following a pitch against The Allmond Partnership, Equinox and the incumbent of 10 years, Carat.
According to Andrew Brown, vice-president of international advertising media at UIP, the company is also reviewing its accounts in Germany, Italy and Australia.
The review in the UK is being overseen by UIP director of marketing Deborah Shepherd.
