UBM buys IDMF from Reed

LONDON - United Business Media has acquired the International Direct Marketing Fair (IDMF) from Reed.

UBM business media and events division CMP plans to incorporate the IDMF and E-Commerce and Digital Marketing Expo (ECDM), the show Reed planned to launch in 2009, into its own Internet World exhibition.

The event organiser will give exhibitors the choice of attending Internet World or exhibiting at one of the companies other shows - Technology for Marketing and Advertising or Call Centre Expo.

The IDMF and Internet World have run side by side since 2006. However, the shows announced a split earlier in the year citing space constraints as the reason.

Mark Snell, group director at CMP, said: "While we review the potential for the IDMF to be re-launched in 2010 we believe that the short term interests of the market and our customers will be best served by incorporating both the IDMF and ECDM exhibitors into our current events for 2009."

Internet World will maintain its scheduled date but will move back to Earls Court 2 where it will take place alongside Reed's Infosecurity Europe and VCM Exhibition's Service Desk & IT Support Show in Earls Court 1.

Alastair Gornall, chief executive of Reed Exhibitions said: "We believe that it is in customers' best interest for this event to be part of a larger marketing portfolio."

Former exhibitions director for the IDMF, Chris James, said: "If CMP combine (IDMF) with Internet World or TFM then I think it is a very good idea. The concept of a large show, owned and run by one organiser, covering all aspects of marketing is one that many of us in the industry have wanted to see for a very long time."

James left his role in June taking a job at Lorien Unique. He was followed soon after by the show's sales manager, Antonia Fielding and marketing manager, Chris Mott.

The IDMF exhibition has been running for 30 years.
