
Tye is currently managing director of Dennis' computer and gambling division, including titles such as PC Pro.
He joined the publisher in 1992 as features editor on Windows Magazine and has since worked his way up through managerial chain.
Departing chief executive Ramsay has been with the company for twenty-one years, thirteen of them as managing director or chief executive, but will stay on as non-executive director.
Felix Dennis, owner of Dennis Publishing, said he had picked an internal candidate for the job despite the fact that "the grass always appears greener over the hill".
He added: "I was grateful for the advice of a friend, an ex-CEO of one of our largest rivals who must remain nameless.
"He suggested that any external candidate 'had better be 25% better than an internal candidate because you know the former, warts and all, while his rival is wreathed in smoke and mirrors."
Ramsay steered the company through a significant period of growth during the late-1990s, including the launch of lad mag Maxim and Test Drive.
He said: "After twenty-one years at Dennis Publishing, thirteen of them as MD or CEO, I figure I am due a break, although I shall remain eternally grateful to Felix for the opportunity to run the company and for his generosity towards me.
"Despite the excellent calibre of potential external recruits, it is especially gratifying that one of our own has measured up so well."
