Two parties plan bids for Trinity Mirror's Midlands titles

LONDON - 47 Midlands based newspapers, including the Birmingham Post, which were put up for sale by Trinity Mirror, have attracted interest from two possible bidders.

One is a consortium led by Sir Digby Jones, the former director of Confederation of British Industry, and the other is Chris Bullivant, who owns a free newspaper group in the region, Observer Standard Newspapers.

Both talked about their intentions yesterday at a National Union of Journalists meeting held to discuss the future of the Trinity titles.

Trinity Mirror put the Midlands titles, as well as its sports division and Southern regional newspaper division, up for sale at the end of last year.
