
An AFP report says French police arrested and later released a 25-year-old unemployed Frenchman, nicknamed 'Hacker Croll', who will appear in court on June 24.
He was arrested in what was reported to be a joint investigation with the FBI, which lasted several months.
Hacker Croll is suspected of leaking a file containing more than 300 documents to These included sensitive details regarding Twitter's financial forecasts and internal strategy papers.
TechCrunch published some of this information, but withheld other data. It came under who argued that it should not have published the information.
A source told AFP that the man, who was arrested in the city of Clermont-Ferrand, gave details of how he broke into the account and how he had done it for a bet.
At the time, Twitter said the hack attack had not gained access to user accounts, but 'Hacker Croll' had gained administrator access, allowing him to access and modify accounts of celebrities such as Spears and President Obama.
As well as breaking into Twitter, the man is alleged to have attacked the Facebook pages of celebrities and was involved in online scams that police said made him around £14,000.
