TV viewing hits levels not seen in more than a decade

LONDON - Television viewing levels for the third quarter of this year were at their highest levels since 1992, according to the IPA Trends in Television Report.

The Olympic Games contributed to high audiences for the BBC and also resulted in ITV having a lower than usual share. Channel 4 continued to have a good share of audience after a slump last year.

The report also reveals that the non-terrestrial channels continue to be favoured by young audiences and that the terrestrial channels hold a larger share of viewing on the Freeview DTT platform.

Lynne Robinson, the IPA's research director, said: "The latest quarter's figures demonstrates the growing strength of digital television both in terms of penetration and its positive effects on overall viewing levels."
