After leaving JWT, which he had joined as a copywriter before rising to become head of TV, Rowbotham launched The Television Department, which acted as a TV department for those agencies that did not have their own. Among its first clients was Saatchi & Saatchi.

This subsequently closed as more agencies launched their own in-house TV facilities and he changed career to become a director and launched Adrian Rowbotham Films, working with brands including Carphone Warehouse and Unicef.

Rowbotham died on 3 June. His funeral will be held at 11am on 12 June at Brompton Oratory.
