As I had been working in marketing and market research for five years, my instinct was to look for another role in this field, ignoring those who said I should be in sales, thanks to my personality and tenacity.
I had the opportunity to be interviewed by the Wall Street Journal and met Ivor Kelly, then managing director of Dow Jones International. During my interview, Ivor turned around my perception of salespeople and convinced me sales was where my future lay. My first few weeks were overwhelming and I soon realised there was nothing stereotypical about my new career.
I subsequently moved from Dow Jones to CNBC in 2005 to join the new-business sales team.
