The restructure is understood to be part of an ongoing review of the business in light of tough trading conditions and follows changes in Trinity Mirror's North West and South Wales operations.

Brown will not be directly replaced and the four senior managers who reported to him - John Griffith in Birmingham, Debbie Davies in Coventry, Bob Cuffe in Teesside and David Simms in Newcastle - will now report to Trinity Mirror Regionals managing director Georgina Harvey.

Brown had worked at Trinity Mirror for 15 years as managing director of the business in Teesside before he took the role of regional managing director for the North East and Midlands.

In other changes, Midlands regional finance director Mick Beale and Midlands business development manager Jane Nugent are also leaving the company.
