Atkinson most recently worked as head of trading at Google's YouTube. Prior to that, at Channel 5, he led Northern & Shell's cross-sell of television and print channels.
He joins Trinity Mirror Solutions later this month and will be responsible for leading the integrated, cross-discipline sales teams in London and Manchester.
He will report to James Wildman, the chief revenue officer, who said: "Andy is a top hire and will drive and align the performance of our sales teams.
"Andy's quality, profile and skill are the perfect complement to Trinity Mirror Solutions and our senior leadership team."
Atkinson's appointment follows the arrival of former Yahoo strategist Piers North as strategy director at Trinity Mirror Solutions.
