Trinity acquires Newsquest's Fish4 stake

Trinity Mirror has taken control of Fish4 after paying a "nominal fee" to acquire the remaining shares in the jobs site from Newsquest.

The online recruitment business will be added to Trinity’s digital classified portfolio, run by Paul Halliwell, managing director of Trinity Mirror Digital Recruitment and Property, which includes GAAPweb, totallylegal, SecsInTheCity and SmartNewHomes.

The Mirror publisher has held a stake in Fish4, which since its launch in 1999 has diversified into cars, dating, holidays and homes, for more than a decade, having owned half the business alongside Newsquest.

David Black, group director of digital publishing, said the purchase demonstrated Trinity’s "continued progress with our strategy of building a growing digital business of scale".

While the cost of the acquisition was described as nominal by a Trinity spokesman, but he added: "It has significant value for us as it fits in extremely well with our existing portfolio of recruitment and property sites."
