Trash to relaunch as Ministry magazine after one issue

LONDON - Ministry of Sound and Conde Nast are set to relaunch their fledgling pop culture magazine Trash as Ministry in January, a year after it scrapped the original title of the same name.

Trash, which is published under contract for Ministry by Conde Nast, was put on hold in August after just one issue amid reports that Ministry wanted it to be more closely aligned with the clubbing brand.

At the time, Ministry of Sound CEO Mark Rodol said: "The pilot issue has been very successful and we are now working with Conde Nast to ensure that the next issue has an even tighter fit with the Ministry of Sound brand."

Editor-in-chief Rachel Newsome and editor Paul Flynn are not expected to be involved in the new title.

Ministry magazine mark II is expected to be a quarterly title, unlike the original plans for Trash, which were for a bi-monthly. The original Ministry magazine, a monthly, was closed in December as the dance magazine market collapsed, also claiming IPC Media's dance and DJing title Muzik.

Trash launched in July following press speculation about what Ministry would replace its former dance culture magazine with as the clubbing market began to flounder.

At the time, Newsome described the magazine as a cross between a "pop Vanity Fair and a grown-up Smash Hits". It was expected to be like an upmarket Heat but was criticised for having a confused editorial direction.

Conde Nast, which was appointed to publish the magazine on behalf of Ministry, aimed for sales of at least 100,000. It is reported the magazine had outsold The Face and Dazed & Confused in its first month.
