Traffic levels to weather sites soar with temperature

LONDON - Traffic to weather websites soared with the temperature yesterday, as UK web users checked to see if it really was the hottest day of the year.

Online intelligence service Hitwise reports that traffic to two of the biggest weather sites, and , have seen growth in traffic of more than 50% since the start of the week, and the BBC Weather site was the 23rd most visited in the UK yesterday.

As the temperature hit 36.4C, the hottest day for 13 years, web users began worrying about the heat -- 1.41% of traffic at the BBC Weather site left to look at a site about climate change, . And it was a day in which too much weather was not enough -- nearly 5% of traffic leaving the BBC Weather site went straight to the .

The three top keywords were "weather", "bbc weather" and "weather forecast".
