TPS registrations appear to be slowing in the wake of silent call regulations introduced by Ofcom three months ago. The regulations require that any company using automated dialling equipment, for whatever purpose, must now ensure that abandoned calls are kept to a minimum - no more than 3 per cent of live calls on each individual campaign over any given 24-hour period.
When a call centre agent is not available to take a call and it is therefore abandoned, an information message must now be delivered to explain the source of the call. CLI is also a requirement for all users of automated calling equipment (ACE). "The silent call plague has hopefully been dealt a final death blow and consumers are less likely to want to register with the TPS to avoid them," a DMA spokesperson said.
Meanwhile, the Corporate TPS grew to 744,799, the Fax PS has 1.8 million names and the Baby MPS just over 7,000 names.
