Total Film celebrates Superman past and present

LONDON - Future's Total Film magazine is running a lenticular front cover to celebrate the return of Clark Kent and his alter ego in the summer blockbuster 'Superman Returns'.

Out today, the cover resembles a newspaper bearing the story "Superman Returns - Man of Steel back from mystery exile", which is the storyline of the new film. Showing in the UK from July 14, 'Superman Returns' is helmed by 'X-Men' director Bryan Singer.

The lenticular element flicks between two images, one of Brandon Routh, the newcomer to the acting role, and the other of Christopher Reeve, the star of the classic 'Superman' movie series. Reeve appears as the mild-mannered Clark Kent while Routh appears in full superhero costume.

Simon Maxwell, publisher of Total Film, said: "'Superman Returns' is undoubtedly the most anticipated movie of the summer, so being first to the newsstand with a highly collectible cover should be dynamite for our sales figures."

Inside the issue, there are 10 pages on the film and on Routh, a relative unknown, who beat leading Hollywood actors to the role.
