Top theatrical dining experiences

From Roald Dahl's The Twits to taking on a role in the French Resistance, Event rounds up four options that combine theatre and food.

Maman Le Mot: role play and dinner at a secret location
Maman Le Mot: role play and dinner at a secret location

Dinner at The Twits, an interactive theatrical dining experience, will celebrate 100 years since the birth of the famous children's author. The dinner experience, based on the best-selling children’s book The Twits, will be presented by Les Enfants Terribles and Ebp, in association with Bompas & Parr and creative company Creature of London. It takes place at The Vaults in Waterloo, London from 4 September to 30 October.

Classic Gingerline Returns

Immersive dining experts Gingerline have devised a Christmas party package for its Classic Gingerline Returns experience that will be available for exclusive use, corporate and private event bookings. Guests will be served a five-course menu from Gingerline’s creative head chef, Alejandro Bello Rodriguez. Dishes on the menu could include beetroot blinis topped with treacle-cured salmon and pea, and venison open burgers on brioche with a quince and mango salsa, amarillo mayonnaise, golden quail eggs and gin pickled gherkins. Entertainment will come in the form of tongue-in-cheek theatrical farce and dramatic escapades and the experience is available from 22 November to 22 December. It is also currently available as a non-Christmas experience.

Maman Le Mot

A hidden bunker in an archway of London Bridge will transport visitors to another place in time for an immersive theatre and dinner experience combined. It’s 1943 and a battle in Europe is raging. Churchill has called on the people to "set Europe ablaze" in a new style of warfare to include mischief, moustaches, misinformation and misdirection. Guests have been recruited as top secret agents and must find their way to the centre of operations for the French Resistance. Once they have progressed through training, the evening concludes with dinner in a Moulin Rouge-inspired Parisian Bistro with French classics given a 40s blitz twist. Maman Le Mot, produced by A Place in Time, launches on 9 September.

Moonshine Mickey's Speakeasy

The Deck is unveiling a destination hidden on the roof of the National Theatre, which will offer a series of prohibition-themed Christmas party packages. Guests will be taken on a journey to clandestine drinking dens of the 1920s from the moment they arrive. Greeted with a faux backstreet door in a ‘backstreet alley’, they will discover a secret entrance concealed with vintage props, leading them to the main venue. A back alcove area will also play host to Moonshine Micky’s ‘office’with a secret library door covering the entrance to the cloakroom. Executive chef Simon Flint has created two menus to choose from.
