The show will use the interactive technology to allow viewers to vote for artists.
Digital satellite and digital cable viewers will be able to press the red button and vote for nominated acts during Top of the Pops on Fridays and Saturdays until 23 November.
Eight categories will appear on screen, including Top Album of the Year, Top Dance Act, Top Newcomer and Top Pop Act. Other methods of voting include the phone, the web and SMS.
Freeview customers will be able to access a text-based service offering category voting details, while visitors to BBCi's web site will be able to access information by going to www.bbc.co.uk/totp.
The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony on 29 November.
The event will be broadcast on BBC One.
Scott Gronmark, head of interactive TV at the BBC, said: "The interactive vote has already played an important role in giving the BBCi audience a chance to voice their opinions and share their thoughts. I don't doubt that this year's awards will continue that trend."
Neil Pleasant, senior producer for enhanced TV at the BBC, said: "This follows our Christmas Day special last year, which was incredibly popular.
Our programming has a wide range of viewers and we are always looking for new ways to connect with that audience."
