TNS experiences late surge in revenue growth

LONDON - TNS expects overall revenue for last year to be up by 2.5%, with Asia-Pacific "particularly strong" despite a slow third-quarter.

The market information firm said the sector picked up in the fourth quarter of 2006, as it issued a trading update ahead of reporting full-year results in March.

In the UK there was a small revenue decline for the year, but France performed well and growth in other markets on the continent was "steady".

Growth in the US was weak, leading to an overall decline in the Americas region in revenue for 2006, but there was strong growth in Latin America.

The Asia-Pacific region continued its excellent growth in the second half and delivered a strong revenue performance for the year.

The sectors which showed the most revenue growth were media, business services, healthcare and polling and social sectors. However, a decline in custom research in the US was a drag on the technology sector, despite growth in Asia-Pacific.

TNS said new business expectations for 2007 were "good" and that it expects a recovery in the US custom research business.

Revenue growth in Europe is expected to be steady, with another strong performance expected from the Asia-Pacific, Latin America, Middle East and Africa regions.
