TMW director of strategy, Mick Costella, passes away at 38

LONDON - Mick Costella, director of strategy at TMW, has passed away at the age of 38, after a short illness.

He leaves behind his wife Kate, whom he married in March 2008, having also met her at TMW.

The agency closed on 6 January to give colleagues the opportunity to join his family at his funeral in Reigate, Surrey.

Costella began his career at British Airways after he enrolled in a graduate training programme. In 1998, he joined business and systems consultancy Conduit Business Solutions, which was purchased by Razorfish the following year, allowing Mick to take up an international role, operating across London and Amsterdam.

He also helped launch an office in Milan, while working for a number of clients, including Nissan and BP.

Costella joined digitaltmw, TMW's digital arm, later taking up the role as the agency's director of strategy where he was key in the acquisition of clients British Airways, Diageo and Unilever.

Richard Marshall, business development director, said: "Mick was a unique character within the agency, and his passion and joy for everything he did in his life was infectious. Everyone who came into contact with Mick was swept up by his sheer energy.

"The number of past and present clients that attended his funeral is testament to how much Mick was respected beyond the usual confines of agency life.

"He will sadly be missed by many friends at TMW, and the wider industry will be a better place for having known him, even a little, and poorer for having had such a relatively short time to spend with him."
