Wheatly stepped down from TLRC, in his post as non-executive director, on 7 January to form a consortium to buy Jazz FM from TLRC.
It is thought MacKenzie will soon join Jazz FM. Officially, TLRC said only that MacKenzie was pursuing "other business interests".
Wheatly founded TLRC in May 2004 with Mackenzie. GMG bought the station in 2005 and relaunched it as 102.2 Smooth FM. TLRC then set up a company last October to relaunch Jazz FM as a digital-only station, by signing a three-year licensing agreement with GMG to use the Jazz FM brand. That agreement is expected to continue under Wheatly.
Jazz FM relaunched in October 2008 on DAB digital radio multiplexes in London, the North West, West Midlands and Glasgow, as well on DTV.
Anthony Gumbiner, non-executive chairman of TLRC, said: "We would like to thank Alistair for the contribution he has made to the company over the years and wish him well in the future."
