Tiscali and Reuters sign pan-European content deal

LONDON - Tiscali, the highly acquisitive pan-European ISP, has signed a deal with Reuters which will see the financial data and news organisation supply editorial and data to 14 of Tiscali's European websites.

Tiscali has bought a string of European ISP's in recent months including LineOne, WorldOnline and French ISP LibertySurf. It recently rebranded its operations in the UK, which included LineOne and part of WorldOnline, under the Tiscali banner.

The restructuring resulted in the loss of 250 jobs as UK operations were merged into one unit, Tiscali UK.

The company backed the move with an extensive direct marketing campaign, which saw it send out a large number of CD-roms.

In a statement, Tiscali said, "This agreement represents an important step in the development of our content distribution strategy."

Tiscali, an Italian-based firm, provides internet access to more than 7m users across Europe.

Last month, Tiscali reported first-half pro-forma losses down 52% on the previous six months to €166.8m (£104.5m), helped by radical restructuring.
