Tindle acquires new regional titles

LONDON - Ardent regional newspaper entrepreneur Sir Ray Tindle has bucked the trend of the down turn by acquiring a series of free weekly newspapers that were about to fall into administration.

Tindle acquires new regional titles

The Devon free sheets employ 25 staff who will all keep their jobs. Tindle, owner of the Tindle Newspaper group, already owns 230 weekly titles across the UK and employs 1,000 staff.

The group has acquired the five titles from The View From group. The papers cover the towns of Axminster, Colyton, Seaton, Honiton and Crewkerne in east Devon.

Tindle already publishes the paid-for Pullmans Weekly in Axminster. It is one of the oldest papers in Devon. Last week Sir Tindle told Marketing that his papers would survive the downturn ‘without any doubt.'
