The Times has launched a new iPad app for its Eureka science section.

The app has been created by mobile agency Tiger Spike in partnership with mobile agency Applied Works.

It focuses on the theme of sports science, "covering five key topics – engineering, medicine, psychology, human physiology and biology".

Jon Hill, The Times art director, said: "The Times is collaborating with Applied Works because not only do they understand the newest technology, they also approach every project with an intelligence that has the audience at the front of their minds."

The content for the app will be transferred from the print edition and will be available for download from the Apple App Store for 59p

The music and sound design for the app was created by Adelphoi Music.

News International, the owner of The Times this week pay for its digital edition of The Times and Sunday Times since putting up a paywall in July.
