The Times extends news coverage <BR>with redesign

LONDON - The Times is to extend its coverage of news, business and sport with the launch of a new section and an enlarged second broadsheet section in an attempt to beat the current downturn.

The main news section of the paper will include expanded home and overseas news coverage, editorials, letters to the editor and a new comprehensive weather section.

The second broadsheet section, currently dedicated to sport, will contain extra business and sport pages.

A new section called The Register will appear in the middle of the paper and will contain double the existing space for obituaries, the Court page and a readers' debate page.

Times 2 will be extended to including more investigations and interviews, reportage and book serialisations, arts, health, law and radio and TV.

The redesign will be supported by a radio and TV advertising campaign.

The Times is owned by Rupert Murdoch's News International, which also owns The Sun, the News of the World and the Sunday Times.
