Time Out launches restaurant review guide for mobiles

LONDON - Time Out is launching a restaurant guide service to mobile phone users, which sends reviews based on people's locations, as part of the launch of its text-based eating and drinking mobile phones guides.

The text message reviews service is already available to customers of Vodafone Live, Vodafone's multimedia service, who can access more than 1,500 restaurants reviews visited by Time Out journalists.

Users will be sent reviews of restaurants close to the area from where the service is requested, which is identified through the location of the mobile the message is being sent to.

Time Out commercial director David Pepper said the publisher is looking to expand the service on to other networks. "We are in negotiations with all the other mobile networks," he said.

Non-Vodafone mobile users interested in using the service can sign up for it at TimeOut.com/mobile.

To use the service, mobile phone owners must choose a cuisine, text 8745 from their mobile and Time Out will send details and reviews of the restaurants. Messages will cost 20p to receive.

Time Out is also offering its European Breaks Guide over mobile phones. Vodafone Live customers will be able to access reviews of 80 destinations that can be reached by low-cost airlines such as Ryanair and EasyJet.
