More Th>n unveils first major email push for card debut

More Th>n, the direct financial services arm of Royal & Sun-Alliance, is to kick off its first full email push for the debut of its credit card.

The promotion will incorporate an email campaign to 70,000 More Th>n customers and, for the first time, target an external database of around 70,000.

SMS messages are also being distributed to 1,000 consumers who have pre-registered on the site (www.morethan.com).

Advertising on iTV cable platform Telewest will allow users to register for product updates by SMS or email. Online advertising, including pop-ups, text links and banners, will appear across a mix of sites from next week. The range of sites has yet to be confirmed.

More Th>n has partnered with credit card firm Accucard to offer a design-it-yourself card whereby customers can choose the picture and a combination of an annual fee, cash back and interest rate. They can change this up to three times a year for free and view statements online.

"This is the first time we've used a full-on email campaign to both existing customers and potential new business," said Graham Hollebon, head of credit cards at More Th>n.

Online ads will be handled by Accucard, with above-the-line work carried out by ad agency CCHM. A direct-mail campaign by agency Denovo will go out to 100,000 More Th>n pet, home and car insurance customers.
