The7stars will start working the account immediately after winning the pitch, which included the incumbent, Initiative. Other shops understood to be in the running were Omnicom’s PHD and Dentsu Aegis Network’s Vizeum.

Sue Moncur, the director of UK marketing at Ancestry, led the review. She said: "We’re delighted to be working with the7stars as we expand our offerings and evolve."

Ancestry.co.uk positions itself as the leading online resource for family history and genealogy.

It is owned by the US-based Ancestry.com, which claims to be the biggest commercial genealogical company in the world with the largest collection of family trees.

Jenny Biggam, a co-founder of the7stars, said: "Ancestry is a much-loved and vital global resource and offers a unique and important service to families.

"We are thrilled to be working with Ancestry to bring its messaging to an even wider audience."

VCCP works on Ancestry.co.uk’s creative business and is not believed to be affected by the review. It created the "traveller" campaign in 2013, which comprised two TV spots.
