The new service will see Tesco providing site visitors with more than 15,000 titles to rent. It will be going head-to-head with traditional film rental giants. Subscribers can rent an unlimited number of DVDs for a flat-rate monthly fee and get the chance to earn Clubcard points.
Laura Wade-Gery, Tesco.com's chief executive, said: "DVDs-by-post has revolutionised the way people watch film in the US and we're confident by moving into the market that we can do the same in the UK."
She continued: "We are confident that once customers sign up for our online service, they will discover a whole new passion for film."
On signing up to Tesco.com's service, customers compile a 'wish-list' of movies from a catalogue of titles, including the latest best-sellers.
This will guar-antee that they are always sent a title they want.
Customers can also ensure that they always have the DVD they want by maintaining a revolving library of two, three or five titles, with a new movie being despatched by first-class free-post every time one is returned.
And customers can keep a film for as long as they like.
The service will also give people the chance to rate and review the films that they watch.
